VDos 2026
vDos is a 32-bit emulator that can run 16-bit DOS apps and includes built-in printing. It did not come with a real production print system. VDos 2026 is the fork where we created one.
Production Printing
VDos 2026 lets legacy DOS business apps run on the latest Windows 11 64-bit systems and print directly to network printers.
It supports direct TCP/IP printing to raw printer ports such as 9100, while keeping the Windows print dialog available when that is the better workflow.
The project page shows two subjects: AccountMate Premiere for DOS running in VDos 2026, and the VDos 2026 Configurator that maps LPT ports, TCP/IP printer targets, and the application path without requiring someone to read documentation before getting started.
The v2026.6.30 release is available at https://github.com/jkirkerx/VDos2026/releases/tag/v2026.6.30.
The finished binary is posted on GitHub so people can download and share it. This was difficult to achieve, and people who benefit from it are encouraged to donate to Jim Kirker at https://github.com/sponsors/jkirkerx.
Tested Printers and Deployment
The print system has been tested with dot matrix Epson and IBM Pro style output as well as LaserJet PCL 6 output.
The project includes a WiX installation project and MAUI notification alerts, and it has already been deployed on four production machines.
